“Re-Membering Mary Magdalene”
Mary Magdalene, the “Apostle to the Apostles” according to some sources, has often (and sometimes intentionally) been misinterpreted throughout Christian history. What’s the full story about Mary Magdalene, and how can studying her shape our faith today? Engage with feminist Biblical scholarship in a way to learn more about Mary Magdalene and to practice a dynamic approach to Scripture for our modern day in this two-part course offered at CCCC in January 2020.

“Queer Christianity”
Sometimes, queerness is seen as something at odds with faith, at least Christianity. What if, instead, there is something queer about Christianity itself? What if LGBTQ+ folk can do more than fight for inclusion but help shape the heart of Christian faith in transformative ways? Learn more about queer Christians and ways in which churches can welcome and affirm queerness in this course offered at CCCC in June 2020.

“Beyond Belief: A Course on What Christianity Can Be”
What if being a Christian is less about what you believe and more about what you practice? How can we talk about our faith when we have more questions than answers? “Beyond Belief” adapts a youth curriculum about the fundamentals of faith for adults with engaging and educative information for this three-part course offered at CCCC in January/February 2022.

“Wielding a Double-Edged Sword”
Week 1: Seven Deadly Scriptures
In the first week of this three-week exploration of queer biblical interpretation, learn about the “clobber passages” and the five main ways in which people have argued that the Bible condemns LGBTQ+ people. Along with some introductory material, learn the real context and meaning of these scriptures and start to see a bigger way to experience the Bible in your everyday life.

“Wielding a Double-Edged Sword”
Week 2: Shifting Stances
This second week of a three-week exploration of queer biblical interpretation explores ways in which peple reading as or along LGBTQ+ folk have seen the Bible as reflecting LGBTQ+ experience. Instead of defending against the clobber passages, learn about five passages or themes across the Bible that inspire positive representation of LGBTQ+ people.

“Wielding a Double-Edged Sword”
Week 3: Swords into Plowshares
This final week of a three-week exploration of queer biblical interpretation teaches about how to turn “swords into plowshares” with a liberating understanding for anyone reading the Bible as or along with LGBTQ+ folk. How do contemporary theories of “normativity” and “queerness” mean for us in our day-to-day life? Discover how the Bible is a “queer” text rich with resources for resisting oppression and discovering wholeness in our day-to-day lives.
